In this episode, Trish is getting personal – and she’s talking about the thing that is quietly stopping more women than any strategy problem ever could.
You’ve been watching someone blow up. She posted, she got 10,000 followers, she launched and sold out, and it looks like it happened overnight. And somewhere in the back of your head, a voice has started whispering – did I miss my window? Do I just not have what it takes?
You’re not behind. You’re in the middle. And the middle is not failing – it’s construction.
Trish pulls back the curtain on what overnight success actually looks like up close – with real stories from Dolly Parton, Sara Blakely, and Oprah, and her own raw account of building Labor Nurse Mama for three years before making a single dollar. She shares the four things she would do differently if she could go back to those hard, quiet, nobody’s-watching years – and why she would still do every single one of them again. This episode is not a strategy episode. It’s the one you need to hear when you’re in the middle and the middle feels like losing.

You've been watching someone like Jesse Jane blow up, and you've been wondering, " What the heck is wrong with me?" She posted and she got 10,000 followers, $7.4 million. She launched it, and she sold out, and it looks like it happened overnight. And quietly inside of you, somewhere in the back of your head, you're starting to wonder, "Did I miss my window?
Trish:Do I suck?
Trish:Like, do I just not have what it takes?" But that's not the case, and you're not behind.
Trish:You are right where you're supposed to be, which is the middle, and that's what we're gonna talk about today
Trish:Welcome back.
Trish:I am Trish Ware.
Trish:Some of you guys know me as Labor Nurse Mama, but this is my side of my life where I help other women who are like me, not tech-savvy, don't know what the heck they're doing on social media, actually build a business that impacts the lives of others.
Trish:So the podcast that you're listening to right now is called "Why She Buys", and I'm sitting in my office.
Trish:I am literally, like, in the most relaxed position, because you know what?
Trish:I love making my business fit my life.
Trish:So I've got my little dog here behind me, Wookie, who let's hope he's quiet, but if not, y'all bear with me.
Trish:'Cause here's the thing: I'm a nurse and I'm a mom, and yes, I have two seven-figure businesses, but I want you to know that you're like me, I'm like you, and there's nothing special about me except for I decided that I was gonna succeed, and that was the only path available to me, and I did it.
Trish:I didn't quit.
Trish:And so we're gonna talk about a lot today about those really hard, messy years.
Trish:Not weeks, not even months, but years.
Trish:This one is personal because I see it stopping women all the time, and it's not really a strategy problem, although I do believe in strategy, and it's probably not even a content problem.
Trish:It's a timeline problem, and it's all those jokers out there making you feel like it should already have happened, and if it hasn't, it's not going to.
Trish:It's all the people who blew up overnight, and I say that in quotes.
Trish:But I wanna take that apart today with stories, with data, and telling you my own journey
Trish:Here is what the algorithm does to your darn brain.
Trish:Every day, it feeds you someone else's results, a screenshot, a launch number, a can't believe this is my life caption, and your brain does what your brain does.
Trish:It tries to figure out a pattern.
Trish:It looks at where she started and where she is now, and it tries to do, like, a math equation.
Trish:But that math is wrong because you don't actually know the numbers.
Trish:You're seeing her after.
Trish:You're not seeing her middle.
Trish:The middle does not get posted as often.
Trish:And honestly, it doesn't go viral because the middle is freaking hard.
Trish:It's slow.
Trish:It's quiet.
Trish:It's showing up and doing the work when only your mom is on your Instagram Live or only your kids come to your master class.
Trish:So when you compare your middle to her after, you will always feel behind.
Trish:But you're not behind.
Trish:You're just in a different chapter, and that is not the same thing.
Trish:Overnight success is not real, and it's typically not lasting if someone did have this overnight success, especially in social media.
Trish:What looks like overnight is always years of trying, repeating, of, of doing the hard stuff, of showing up when it's hard.
Trish:And when you measure your middle against someone's after, it's a very convincing lie that you're failing.
Trish:And so I wanna talk about some data and about some things that I … You know, I'm in Nashville, y'all.
Trish:Okay?
Trish:I'm in Nashville, so Dolly Parton.
Trish:She has been performing since she was 10 years old.
Trish:She moved to Nashville the day after high school graduation.
Trish:She was writing songs and knocking on doors before most people knew her name.
Trish:The Dolly we know, the icon, that did not happen overnight.
Trish:That was decades of showing up before the world caught on.
Trish:Sara Blakely, thank you Jesus for Sara Blakely.
Trish:Sara cuts the feet off her pantyhose and spent two years pitching Spanx to anybody who would listen.
Trish:Two years of no.
Trish:And then Oprah puts it on her favorite things list, and suddenly the world thinks that she came out of nowhere.
Trish:She didn't.
Trish:She was in her middle.
Trish:For two years, nobody was watching.
Trish:She's combing the streets.
Trish:Oprah Fired from her first TV job and was told she was too emotional and not fit for television.
Trish:This is a woman who built one of the biggest media empires ever, and she was told she couldn't do it.
Trish:What if she had given up?
Trish:What if these women had just said, " Whatever."
Trish:What looks like success, momentum, is almost always repetition.
Trish:The people that you compare yourself to, they were in their middle too.
Trish:You just weren't following them.
Trish:They didn't just pop up on your algorithm at that time.
Trish:So one of the things I teach my client, and this is just a little pop-in side note, is to stop scrolling and get into social media intentionally with a job, okay?
Trish:This is a job.
Trish:You're not there to look at what everyone else is doing.
Trish:So that was just a little bonus side note.
Trish:So let me tell you my story.
Trish:arted Labor and Nurse Mama in:Trish:I was a labor and delivery nurse building this little side hustle, figuring it out.
Trish:I didn't know how to use social media.
Trish:I didn't know how to make content, and it wasn't as big as it is now, like content making.
Trish:I had to figure it out, and here's the deal.
Trish:, I did not make money until:Trish:Three years of building it before it snowballed, and then it did, and once it did, it didn't stop.
Trish:Would I go back and do:Trish:Uh, would I?
Trish:Hell yes, I would.
Trish:But I would do a few things differently, and I wanna tell you what they are, because I think they would have changed my timeline, but it still wouldn't have been overnight.
Trish:Number one, I would have found a coach who understood, really understood B2C, marketing to moms, marketing to consumers, not a generic business coach, someone who knew this specific buyer, this specific psychology, someone who had actually sold to a consumer, to a mom, because that gap cost me so much freaking time.
Trish:But I did invest, and I invested before I had the money to invest.
Trish:Number two, I would not have been alone.
Trish:I would have gotten eyes on my work sooner, someone who could take an unemotional glance, right?
Trish:Who could look at what I was doing and tell me the truth, not just cheer me on.
Trish:Actually helped me see what I was missing, 'cause I was missing a lot.
Trish:And being alone in your business, like, doesn't sound as bad as it can be, but it can actually cost you months of work and lots of money.
Trish:And number three, leaning into community, I would've networked.
Trish:I would have found a coach who also built a community around the program, someone who made sure I knew who else is in the room with me that I could be connecting.
Trish:I've been in coaching experiences where I never even know who else is enrolled, and there's no community, there's no way to connect, and that just feels like a transaction to me.
Trish:I would also have leaned into networking locally, because that has been a game changer for me.
Trish:2026, we decided that it was gonna be my year of events and networking.
Trish:I joined EntrepreneStaa, and we'll put links in the show notes.
Trish:I joined Heels and Handshakes, I joined Women Connect.
Trish:Heels and Handshakes is in Las Vegas, Chicago, and Nashville.
Trish:And I just started going to live events, and, like, I invested money in those to get into the room, and that has been not only business-changing, but life-changing
Trish:Number four, and I want you to really sit in this.
Trish:I would go back to those hard three years without making money, and I would do every single one of them again because it was not a waste.
Trish:It was my foundation.
Trish:Every piece of sucky content that I created, every buyer that I missed out on, everything I learned about my BFE, my best fan ever, it was building a foundation that I could not see yet, but I was standing on it.
Trish:And I just want you guys to hear me that this is not overnight.
Trish:This is hard.
Trish:And the middle is not failing.
Trish:The middle is construction.
Trish:Like, you know, like if you've ever read the Bible, it's like, are you building your house on sand or are you building your house on a solid foundation?
Trish:And why that matters so much for your business right now is that you have to also put this into your buyer's place, like where she is.
Trish:Depending on who you're marketing to, remember that you're meeting her in the middle too.
Trish:And your, when your content speaks directly to that, when it names where she is right now, when you name her Tuesday afternoon, she stops scrolling because you're not selling her your course, your services, your product.
Trish:You're selling her her Hawaii, the outcome that she may not believe that she can get.
Trish:And so I really want you guys to hear me.
Trish:You're not behind.
Trish:You're in your middle.
Trish:You're not.
Trish:And even though everyone else is posting a highlight reel, I want you to bring your BFE along with you on this journey, because girl, your life can change so much if you're willing to stop quitting.
Trish:And I watch this happen inside my community.
Trish:Someone joins as a client, and she's convinced she's behind.
Trish:She's been following someone else.
Trish:She's invested in other coaches, and she comes into my community where she actually gets access to me.
Trish:She gets access to the other women in my community.
Trish:There's no gatekeeping.
Trish:There's no, like, hiding proximity.
Trish:She's surrounded by women who aren't like business majors, who are real people who are doing the same dang thing that understand in a way that your, and I say this in quotes, "Your real-life friends just don't get it." Your nine-to-fivers do not understand what we're doing.
Trish:And being surrounded by people who support you and love you and build you up and are also in the same struggles as you is priceless
Trish:Because when you can stop comparing, you start building, and building compounds.
Trish:Now, y'all all know all about doing the same dang thing and getting reps in, but reps is what builds that brick wall, and you need to build your own wall.
Trish:You don't need to compare to your neighbors, period.
Trish:Let's build your wall.
Trish:And here is what I want to leave with you as you leave this little shorty episode.
Trish:Stop measuring your chapter against someone else's highlight reel, against their today and now, because you don't know how long she was in her middle before you started watching.
Trish:You don't know how many times she swapped and thought about quitting, and you don't know what it cost her.
Trish:You don't know what she was building before it was photographs or people showed up.
Trish:You cannot compare your middle with her now, period.
Trish:Stay in your middle, build in your middle, show up, be determined, decide there's no other option but success, and get the reps in.
Trish:Get the reps in.
Trish:Here's what I say to my clients.
Trish:You have to review, refine, and repeat the same dang thing.
Trish:Stop hopping around.
Trish:Stop following this guru and that guru and trying this and trying that.
Trish:What I told you that I wished I had, was a coach who knows my buyer, who knows consumers, that would get their eyes on my work, tell me to stop making emotional decisions, tell me to stick with a strategy, and a room where I could leave with a plan.
Trish:And that's exactly what I have built inside the mastermind.
Trish:But I also want to invite you guys.
Trish:We don't have
Trish:I also want to invite you guys to Why She Buys Live in Nashville January 27th and 28th.
Trish:We are going to be in a room together.
Trish:We're gonna work on your content, your paid challenge or live experience, and how to actually sell your offer.
Trish:Real speakers, real strategy, mindset, a room full of 150 women, and you're gonna walk out with a plan.
Trish:Not a notes.
Trish:Not notes, an action plan.
Trish:Details are gonna be in the show notes.
Trish:Make sure you grab your spot.
Trish:Join the wait list.
Trish:The room is going to fill up.
Trish:I promise you it will fill up, and it will be the best days of your life in a room where everyone else is doing what you're doing, and we are going to kill it.
